The 2024 football season for Auburn came and went. There weren’t a lot of expectations, but they failed to reach even the lowered bar in a 5-7 season which saw them fail to reach bowl eligibility.
Hugh Freeze enters his third season as the head coach. Through two seasons, Freeze is just 11-14. As he enters this upcoming season, expectations are certainly raised. Another subpar season would surely put the coach squarely on the hot seat.
If you believe the oddsmakers, this is certainly the year that Auburn is set to take a massive step forward under Freeze. They had the 8th best transfer class and 8th best incoming freshman class according to 247Sports. Where exactly do oddsmakers have Auburn ahead of their spring game?
Latest Auburn football futures odds
*Odds courtesy of bet365 as of 4/4
- Over/Under 7.5 wins: Over -130/Under +100
- To win the SEC: +3300
- To win national title: +6500
Over/Under 7.5 wins
Auburn ranks 22nd in returning talent, according to ESPN. They nabbed two of the top-10 transfers in the country, adding wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. from Georgia Tech and offensive tackle Xavier Chaplin from Virginia Tech.
Most importantly, Auburn has transformed their quarterback room. Starter Payton Thorne ran out of eligibility and the three other quarterbacks on the roster hit the transfer portal.
To replace them, Freeze and the rest of the Auburn staff added former 5-star recruit Jackson Arnold, who struggled at Oklahoma. In addition, they added Ashton Daniels, a two-year starter at Stanford, and five-star prospect Deuce Knight.
Will a top-25 returning class and a top-10 class in both recruiting and the transfer portal lead to three more wins for Auburn this season? That’s the question you need to ask yourself if you plan on betting the season win total.
In order to even think about going over this win total, Auburn would need to win every game against teams that are considerably weaker than them, which includes Mercer, Ball State and South Alabama.
On top of that, they’d need to win at least five games on the remainder of their schedule. Some potential wins include vs. Kentucky, @ Baylor, @ Vanderbilt, vs. Missouri, @ Oklahoma and @ Arkansas.
Having the Iron Bowl at home in a year where many are projecting a not as dominant team in Tuscaloosa can end up making or breaking this win total. Wouldn’t that be a thrilling way for the regular season to end?
Auburn football odds to win the SEC (+3000)
While Auburn is expected to take a sizable step forward this year, there’s still a sizable gap between them and some of the top contenders in the SEC. Texas and Georgia are the two favorites to win the conference, and there are probably three or four tiers separating them from War Eagle.
The current odds basically give Auburn and Florida a similar chance to win the SEC. That puts them behind teams like Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina and Texas A&M.
If you place a $10 bet on Auburn to win the SEC, you would win $330 in profit at bet365 if the Tigers shocked the world and got the job done.

With the expansion of the College Football Playoff, more teams now think they have a chance to win the national championship. Twelve teams are making the postseason tournament, and as we saw this year, even three losses can get you into the dance.
Across most sportsbooks, Auburn has the 17th-20th best odds to win the national championship, which theoretically would have them on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff discussion. However, if one or two things bounce their way over the course of the season, they can be right on that bubble come December.
Either way, a bet on Auburn to win the national championship seems rather premature and hopeful. Treat it as no more than a lottery ticket and remember that even a $5 bet at these odds will win at least $300 in profit.
