Updating Clemson baseball in college polls after Wake Forest series win, 23-3 start

CLEMSON — Clemson baseball rose from No. 6 to No. 5 in the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll released on Monday.

The Tigers (23-3, 4-2 ACC) received 615 points but no first-place votes. They are the second-highest ACC team, finishing behind No. 4 Florida State.

Clemson, which was picked to finish fourth in the ACC baseball preseason poll, swept The Citadel in a two-game midweek series and won its three-game weekend series vs. No. 14 Wake Forest. Clemson scored seven unanswered runs vs. the Demon Deacons to win the series finale Sunday after trailing 6-0 in the first two innings.

Clemson faces Coastal Carolina on Tuesday (6 p.m. ET, ACC Network Extra) and Presbyterian on Wednesday (6 p.m. ET, ACC Network Extra) this week at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. It has its first road series this season against No. 25 Georgia Tech this weekend.

Tennessee, last year’s national champion, is the No. 1 team in the coaches poll, earning 734 points and 23 first-place votes. Arkansas and Georgia both received at least one first-place vote too.

Five other ACC schools made the Top 25: Wake Forest (No. 14), North Carolina (18), Louisville (19), Stanford (22) and Georgia Tech (25).

The USA TODAY Sports Board of Coaches is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of made up of 30 head coaches at Division I institutions.
