Updating Tennessee in college baseball polls following LSU series loss

Tennessee baseball held its place in the rankings despite losing its third series in April.

The Vols are ranked No. 6 in the USA TODAY coaches poll after dropping a series at LSU after losing to Kentucky. They also lost to Texas A&M in early April. UT was ranked No. 1 in the nation for six weeks this season, but has been sliding since.

UT (35-9, 13-8 SEC) hosts No. 11 Auburn (30-14, 11-10) in its next series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Vols had won 12 straight SEC prior to losing to Texas A&M, starting a rough April. They won at Ole Miss before the back-to-back series losses to Kentucky and LSU.

Tennessee won its first 20 games of the season to string together a 22-game winning streak dating back to last season’s College World Series. The Vols won the final two games in Omaha to clinch the program’s first national title.

It lost back-to-back one-run games to ETSU and Alabama in mid-March before winning eight straight.
