Vanderbilt is gaining steam with Travis Perry

Former Kentucky Wildcats guard Travis Perry was a surprise entry to the transfer portal just hours before the portal closed in late April.

Ole Miss became an early favorite in his recruitment, as Chris Beard heavily recruited Perry out of high school.

However, the Vanderbilt Commodores have recently gained steam.

On Friday, Robbie Weinstein of Vandy247 placed a crystal ball prediction in favor of Perry heading to Vanderbilt to play for head coach Mark Byington. The soon-to-be sophomore will have three years of eligibility left at his next stop.

The Maryland Terrapins hosted Perry on an official visit this past weekend. The Terrapins are now coached by former Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams, who is apparently a fan of Perry.

Perry signed with the Wildcats out of high school as a 4-star recruit and the 81st overall player in the nation. His original final five out of high school included Kentucky, Alabama, Western Kentucky, Cincinnati, and Ole Miss.

If Perry picks Vandy, it’s only about a two-hour drive from Lyon County, so he’d still be very close to his home. That may be a big reason why the Dores are now seemingly a real player in this recruitment.
