Vanderbilt women’s basketball and Ole Miss will both look to bounce back from brutal losses when they meet Thursday.
Both teams are looking to finish in the top half of the SEC but suffered setbacks Sunday. The Commodores (14-2, 1-1 SEC) never got off the ground in a 96-78 loss to Kentucky, while the Rebels (10-4, 1-1) blew a 16-point lead to Texas A&M.
With the SEC expanding to 16 teams, each squad will have only one opponent it plays twice, and for Vanderbilt, Ole Miss is that opponent. The two teams will play again at Memorial Gymnasium on Feb. 2.
Neither team was ranked in the most recent USA TODAY Coaches Poll, but Ole Miss received 20 votes and Vanderbilt received 16.
The Commodores are led by the duo of Mikayla Blakes (20.6 points per game) and Khamil Pierre (22.8 ppg, 10.9 rebounds per game). Ole Miss is led by Sira Thenou (12.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg) and Kennedy Todd-Williams (11.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg).
