Versatile European wing Mathieu Grujicic commits to Ohio State basketball

Ohio State has landed a commitment from Mathieu Grujicic, a European wing who most recently played in Spain.

A 6-foot-6, 205-pound player, Grujicic is a native of Berlin but spent last season playing for FC Barcelona’s U18 team. He has spent time playing for Germany at the youth national team level, has participated in multiple NBA camps and was most recently named the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague Ulm tournament most valuable player.

His addition gives the Buckeyes additional depth on the wing, an area of need that saw them make runs at the likes of Darrion Williams, Devan Cambridge and Kenard Davis only to see those players commit elsewhere. Grujicic will likely be a freshman and have four years of eligibility with the Buckeyes.

He is the sixth offseason addition to the roster, joining fellow freshman Myles Herro and transfers Gabe Cupps (Indiana), Brandon Noel (Wright State), Josh Ojianwuna (Baylor) and Christoph Tilly (Santa Clara).

He won’t be the last addition, either, as the Buckeyes continue to look to add depth to the roster.

While playing in the Adidas tournament, Grujicic averaged 18.5 points 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.2 steals and shot 47.4% from 3-point range. In a 91-89 win against U18 Zalgiris Kaunas in the title game played in early February, he finished with 22 points, 2 rebounds, an assist and a steal while drawing eight fouls.

In April, he made his EuroLeague debut at age 17 and scored his first career points for FC Barcelona’s senior team. Prior to that, he averaged 12.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 21 games for the club in the fourth tier of Spain’s basketball system.

Before playing for Barcelona, Grujicic played for ALBA Berlin’s junior team in Germany and made his debut with the club’s second team in 2022-23 before moving to Spain in 2023-24. He has played for Germany’s U16 national team and represented the country at the 2023 European U16 Championship. There, he led Germany in scoring at 14.4 points per game and added 5.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists while helping his country to a sixth-place finish.

Last summer, Grujicic was named the most valuable player at the NBA Basketball Without Borders Europe Camp, which featured 60 players from 25 different countries and was held in Malaga, Spain. He was also named an all-star at the NBA Basketball Without Borders Global Camp held during the league’s all-star weekend this year.

Before making the trip to San Francisco for the latter event, Grujicic was highlighted by EuroHoops Scouting as one of 17 Europeans to be selected.

“Mathieu Grujicic is a versatile wing with a great frame and mobility, making him difficult to stop in transition, which he seeks in every given opportunity,” the evaluation reads. “He runs the floor at every opportunity, maximizing his athleticism in fast-break situations. A good and stable shooter, Grujicic is effective both on and off the dribble behind the arc, taking shots at a decent volume while also displaying efficiency when driving to the basket.

“On the defensive end, he is tough and willing to take on every challenge, proving himself as a proficient defender with the potential to develop into a two-way player. His ability to make an impact on both ends of the floor makes him a key presence for his team.”

He will be the fourth international player on Ohio State’s 2025-26 roster, joining Ojianwuna (Nigeria), Tilly (Germany) and sophomore center Ivan Njegovan (Croatia).
