Vienna native is named first female Division I college baseball general manager

The College of Charleston announced Thursday that it has promoted Sam Gjormand to the role of general manager for the school’s baseball team.

Gjormand is the first female general manager in Division I college baseball and only the second individual to hold that title for a Division I college baseball program. Tulane is the other.

Gjormand spent the last three seasons as the College of Charleston’s director of baseball operations and executive assistant to the head baseball coach.

In addition to continuing to oversee the program’s budget and coordinating all travel accommodations, Gjormand will now also oversee and coordinate all fundraising events and Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for the baseball program.

Gjormand is the daughter of long-time Madison head baseball coach Mark Gjormand.

Sam Gjormand spent four seasons as a student manager for James Madison University’s baseball team. She also spent the summer of 2021 as an assistant to the general manager
