KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WCYB) — Through a long college baseball season, a few lumps are inevitable – and one of those lumps came to the defending champion Tennessee Vols this past weekend.
After taking their road series at LSU into day three all knotted up, the Vols took a tough 12-2 loss.
Despite that, head coach Tony Vitello is still convinced there is plenty left in the tank for this group – who’s chasing back-to-back titles.
With a lot of ball left to play, Vitello and company are hoping to get back up and make a splash – using their long home stretch coming up to their advantage with the postseason coming soon.
I’m not doubting the preparation or the competing or the behavior in the dugout, or the focus or any of that. It’s just a matter of us going with what we think are the best nine out there and the best pitchers. We need to play better at home, too. We’re going to be at home for a couple weeks, so our guys need to enjoy that. Our fans need to enjoy that,” said Vitello. “Somehow they need to get synced back up and give us that marriage to win games. We need fuel anywhere we can get it while on this homestand. We need play well at home.
After a non-conference win over Northern Kentucky on Tuesday, the Vols are set for a three-game series against Auburn starting on Friday.
