Washington Football star CB named to Phil Steele’s Preseason All-Big Ten Fourth Team

Washington Huskies cornerback Tacario Davis has big goals ahead of his final season of college football. The 2024 All-Big 12 Second Team honoree with the Arizona Wildcats told members of the media that he wants to be an All-American in his final season, and according to college football analyst Phil Steele, he has some room to grow before he gets there.

Steele named the 6-foot-4 senior, who was ranked as the top cornerback in the transfer portal, to his Preseason All-Big Ten Fourth Team.

For Davis, who has 76 tackles, 22 pass breakups, an interception, and a forced fumble to his name over his three-year career with the Wildcats, the recognition is a solid start. But now that he’s reunited with secondary coach John Richardson, who helped him have a breakout season at Arizona in 2023, he feels that he can unlock his full potential.

“I feel like I have so much potential to be where I want to be physically and mentally,” Davis told the media during spring practice. “Coming back and finishing off with the dude who helped put me on the map, because not a lot of people knew who I was going into my sophomore year. Having that season was really like having a coach that believed in me, and I just took off from there and things happened, but we’re back at it.”

He’s also reunited with his Wildcats running mate, the similarly-sized Ephesians Prysock, giving the Huskies one of the biggest and longest tandems of cornerbacks in the country.

While the Big Ten isn’t necessarily known for its high-flying passing offenses, Davis could prove to be a suffocating presence in defensive coordinator Ryan Walters’ scheme, which is going to ask him to play a lot of press-man coverage on the outside, which is where he’s at his best.

If Richardson can unlock the potential Davis, and pro scouts who graded him as a potential early-round selection in the 2025 NFL draft believe he has, he should very easily outplay his preseason ranking.
