WATCH: Dan Lanning celebrates commitment of 5-star EDGE Richard Wesley with pool jump

A lot of the times when a school gets a commitment from a 5-star player, you wonder what the reaction was like for coaches on the staff upon receiving the news. With 5-star EDGE Richard Wesley committing to the Oregon Ducks on Saturday afternoon, fans don’t have to wonder about how Dan Lanning received the news.

Thanks to a video posted by On3’s Hayes Fawcett, we get a look at how Lanning and Wesley celebrated the commitment on Saturday. Hanging out at The Standard’s rooftop pool in Eugene, Wesley filmed a short video announcing the commitment. Afterward, he and Lanning cannon-balled into the pool and came out of the water, throwing the ‘O’ with their hands.

This is a huge commitment for the Ducks, who made a massive jump in the recruiting rankings with the addition of Wesley, who the 247Sports Composite rates as the No. 20 player in the 2026 class, and No. 3 EDGE in the nation. Before Wesley’s commitment, Oregon had the No. 22 class, but they moved up to No. 14 with his commitment.

Wesley chose the Ducks over the likes of Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC. Originally a member of the 2027 class, Wesley reclassified to 2026 and is among the top players in the class.

The Ducks picked up a prediction to land a commitment from Wesley earlier this spring, so his commitment does not come as a huge surprise.
