All five players helped Watertown Post 17 compile a 46-25 record and a third-place finish in the state Class A tournament last summer. They are all eligible to compete next summer for Post 17.

Information on signees was not released on some college web sites.

Jurgens is one of 10 early signees for DSU’s baseball team.

“Talan is a guy that continued to impress our coaching staff every time we went to watch him pitch against some of the premier talent in the state of South Dakota throughout the 2024 Legion season,” DSU assistant Dan Rutan said. “Talan knows his strengths as a pitcher and possesses authentic competitive capabilities on the mound. He fills up the zone, does not walk hitters and consistently attacks with his best stuff, which are qualities we highly value on our pitching staff.”

NSU women’s basketball recruits include Roncalli’s Hanson

ABERDEEN — Northern State University head coach Paula Krueger announced the additions of four student-athletes, including Aberdeen Roncalli senior Ava Hanson.

Makenzie Carrier (Kasson, Minn.), Brooklynn Holmberg (Prior Lake, Minn.), and Reagan Rus (Mount Vernon) will also join the Wolves in the fall of 2025.

“We are excited to add the toughness and athleticism of these four young ladies to our squad,” noted Krueger. “They each bring something unique to the court. We look forward to having them in Wolves Country.”

Hanson, a 5-foot-10 guard, is a three-year starter and two-year team captain for Derek Larson’s Cavaliers at Roncalli. She averaged 14 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game as a junior.

Hanson is a two-time All-Northeast Conference selection who received honorable mention on the 2024 Class A all-state team. She holds Roncalli’s school record for most 3-pointers in a game and was an eighth-grader on the Cavaliers’ state A championship team in 2021.

“Ava brings length and athleticism to the perimeter. She can guard multiple positions and the size to be a great rebounder,” Krueger swaid. “Her height and length will allow her to post up smaller guards, and she shoots the 3 with solid efficiency.”
