WATERTOWN — Another Watertown High School senior and Watertown Post 17 American Legion Baseball standout is going to try to play the sport at the next level.
Second baseman Treyton Himmerich announced on his X (formerly known at Twitter) account that he has committed to play college baseball at Mount Marty College in Yankton.
Himmerich is the fourth Watertown Post 17 player to announce his plans to play college baseball and all four — pitcher-catcher Kaden Rylance (NCAA Division I South Dakota State), pitcher Talan Jurgens (NAIA Dakota State Univeristy) and shortstop-relief pitcher Nathan Briggs (NCAA Division II Wayne (Neb.) State) — are eligible to return for Post 17 next summer.

This past summer, the four standouts helped lead Post 17 to a 46-25 record (the second most wins in a season during the nearly 100-year history of the program) and a third-place finish in the state Class A tournament.
Himmerich not only provided solid defense at second base but also batted .275 with five doubles, 42 runs scored and 40 runs batted in. In 2022, he also played second base and batted .250 with 41 runs scored for a Post 17 team that went 32-32.
Himmerich is also in his second year as the starting quarterback for the No. 2-ranked Class 11AA Watertown High School football team, which opens the playoffs on Thursday by hosting Huron at 7 p.m. at Watertown Stadium.
