5 men’s NCAA baseball tournament players to watch
The Mongomery Advertiser’s Adam Cole and The Tennesseean’s Aria Gerson break down the top players to watch in the men’s NCAA baseball tournament.
Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle has some work to do if he hopes to make a return to the College World Series in 2025.
The first-year Longhorns coach, fresh off leading rival Texas A&M to the CWS finals in 2024, saw his No. 2-seeded team fall, 9-7, to UTSA on May 31, forcing Texas into an elimination game on June 1 with Kansas State. Should Texas beat its former Big 12 cohort, it must turn right around and take on UTSA in the Austin Regional championship game.
Should the Longhorns beat both Kansas State and UTSA on June 1, they and the Roadrunners will face off in a win-or-go-home game on June 2, with the winner advancing to take on the winner of winner of the Los Angeles Regional, hosted by No. 15 national seed UCLA.
Before any of that, however, Texas must first take down a Kansas State team that fell 10-2 to the Roadrunners before downing the Huskies 7-4 earlier in the Austin Regional.
