Here’s everything you need to know about when MLB pitchers and catchers report, when spring training games get underway, and more with baseball officially being back in action.
MLB pitchers and catchers report dates for 2025 spring training
Two National League teams — the Chicago Cubs on Feb. 9 and Los Angeles Dodgers on Feb. 11 — have their pitchers and catchers in the building.

For the rest of MLB, 20 teams will report Wednesday, Feb. 12 (Braves, Red Sox, Tigers, Marlins, Mets, Yankees, Phillies, Pirates, Cardinals, Rays, Nationals, Diamondbacks, Athletics, White Sox, Reds, Royals, Angels, Padres, Giants and Rangers).
The other eight organizations (Orioles, Astros, Twins, Blue Jays, Guardians, Rockies, Brewers and Mariners) will be out on the field a day later on Thursday, Feb. 13.
When do games start for 2025 MLB spring training?
The first spring training game will be a Cactus League matchup between the Cubs and Dodgers on Thursday, Feb. 20 in Glendale, Arizona.
The next day, Friday, Feb. 21, features five games, including the Yankees making their spring training debut from George Steinbrenner Field against the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa, Florida.
All 30 MLB organizations will be in action on Saturday, Feb. 22, including the Mets as they face the Houston Astros at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
When does the 2025 MLB season begin?
The Dodgers and Cubs reported early because they will start the regular season nearly a week before everyone else with a two-game set from Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday, March 18 and Wednesday, March 19 at the Tokyo Dome.
Opening Day in 2025 is Thursday, March 27, with 28 of the 30 MLB teams in action. The Colorado Rockies and Tampa Bay Rays start their regular season a day later on Friday, March 28.
The Yankees begin their quest to repeat as American League champions at home with a three-game series versus the Milwaukee Brewers.
Juan Soto will make his Mets’ debut in Texas with a three-game set against the Houston Astros.
When do Yankees, Mets face off in spring training, regular season?
The Mets and Yankees will meet only once in spring training, which comes Monday, March 24 at 1 p.m. from Clover Park.
Things change this year in the regular season, with the two franchises facing off six times in 2025 with two, three-game series, compared to the multiple two-game sets they’ve played in prior years.
It starts with Soto’s highly-anticipated return to the Bronx on Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18 at Yankee Stadium, with the newly acquired Mets’ outfielder expected to hear the boos reigning down every at bat or jog as he takes to his position in right field.
The Yankees and Mets meet for the final time with a matchup in Queens starting Friday, July 4 and concluding Sunday, July 6.
