4 MLB prospects to watch during the 2025 Men’s College World Series
4 MLB prospects The Montgomery Advertiser’s Adam Cole and The Southwest Times Record’s Jackson Fuller are watching during the 2025 Men’s College World Series
On Monday, Arkansas avoided elimination from the 2025 College World Series with a 3-0 victory against Murray State led by a brilliant outing from pitcher Gage Wood, who tossed just the third no-hitter in CWS history.
Though they lived to fight another day, the Razorbacks’ next step is an uncertain one.
Arkansas will once again have to take part in an elimination game at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska, but its opponent hasn’t yet been determined. The Razorbacks will face the loser of No. 6 LSU’s game against No. 15 UCLA, which was supposed to wrap up on the night of June 16, but was postponed by a weather delay after the third inning and won’t resume until Tuesday, June 17 at 10 a.m. CT.
The Tigers were leading the Bruins 5-3 entering the fourth inning, when the field was cleared and the game was paused.
It could turn out to be a fortuitous break for coach Dave Van Horn’s team, which will get a potentially worn-down opponent playing its second game of the day while the Razorbacks will be relatively fresh.
If it’s LSU that Arkansas gets to face, it would present an opportunity for revenge for a 4-1 loss the Tigers handed the Razorbacks on June 14 in the CWS opener for both teams.
Here’s what awaits Arkansas in its next game in the College World Series on June 17:
When does Arkansas play next in College World Series?
- Date: Tuesday, June 17
- Time: 6 p.m. CT
- Location: Charles Schwab Field (Omaha, Neb.)
Arkansas’ next game against LSU or UCLA is scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch from Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. The Razorbacks first fell to the losers’ bracket on June 14 with a 4-1 loss to LSU, forcing the No. 3 national seed to fight for its postseason life on June 16 against Murray State.
There, Razorbacks starter Gage Wood put together a historic performance, recording the first no-hitter at the College World Series since 1960 and coming one hit batter away from the first perfect game on the stage.
With a June 17 win against either LSU or UCLA, the Razorbacks will advance to the CWS semifinals. There, they would have to beat the Bruins or Tigers (whichever one wins Tuesday’s game) twice to advance to the best-of-three championship series, starting on June 21.
