Tim Tebow shares advice for incoming NFL rookie class
Tim Tebow shares some valuable advice for incoming rookies like Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward.
Sports Seriously
With the NFL combine underway, loads of attention will be on the quarterbacks available in the 2025 NFL draft class.
Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders are the likeliest to be the first two signal-callers selected in April, with several other passers in contention to be the third highest-drafted quarterback in the class.
NFL teams unlikely to compete in 2025 must determine whether to fill a need at quarterback need now, or draft a different player and push for the sport’s most important position in the next draft. And the 2026 NFL draft has the potential to be quite the quarterback class.
Though Texas’ Arch Manning has only played nine games with two starts for the Longhorns, he will enter the 2025 college football season looking not only to deliver on the hype that surrounded him as the former No. 1 overall recruit of the 2023 class, but also stake his claim as the top quarterback available to be drafted.
He also has the pedigree and family name to be considered one of the top players in the NFL draft: Arch Manning, of course, is the nephew of Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, who were both selected No. 1 overall in their respective drafts. Manning’s grandfather, Archie Manning, was drafted No. 2 overall out of Ole Miss and spent numerous years as the New Orleans Saints‘ starting quarterback.
When is Arch Manning eligible to be drafted? With his name certain to come up in some fashion during the NFL combine, here’s everything to know about his NFL draft status:
When is Arch Manning eligible for NFL draft?
Manning is ineligible for the 2025 NFL draft, as he has only competed two years of college football. Players must be three years removed from high school to request to enter the NFL draft, according to the NFL’s rules on player eligibility.
Manning, who’s expected to be among the top quarterbacks in college football next season after showing flashes during extended action against UTSA and Mississippi State in 2024, can declare for the NFL after next season if he desires. Manning does have three seasons of college eligibility remaining, however, as he redshirted his freshman season.
That said, Manning has the potential to be one of the top signal-callers of the 2026 NFL draft — if he chooses to leave college early.
What year is Arch Manning?
Manning will be a redshirt sophomore in 2025, his third season of college football. He redshirted as a freshman in 2023, playing in only one game that year. That falls under the NCAA’s four-game redshirt limit, allowing him to retain a year of eligibility.
NFL draft eligibility rules
Players must be removed from high school for at least three years before being eligible to enter the draft.
Here’s the official wording from NFL operations:
“To be eligible for the draft, players must have been out of high school for at least three years and must have used up their college eligibility before the start of the next college football season. Underclassmen and players who have graduated before using all their college eligibility may request the league’s approval to enter the draft early.”
Arch Manning recruiting rankings
Manning, hailing from Isidore Newman High School in New Orleans, was the top-rated recruit in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports. He not only was listed as a five-star recruit, but also as the No. 1 quarterback and No. 1 player in the 2023 recruiting class.
- Star rating: Five stars
- Positional ranking: No. 1 quarterback
- State ranking: No. 1 player from Louisiana
- Overall ranking: No. 1 overall player
Manning also ranks favorably in 247Sports’ all-time recruiting class. He’s tied for 28th all time, ranking as the No. 2 player from Louisiana, behind former LSU running back Leonard Fournette. Curiously, he also is the No. 2 quarterback, trailing only Quinn Ewers — whom he sat behind in two seasons at Texas.
Here is how Manning ranks all time, according to 247Sports’ rankings, which date back to the 2000 recruiting class:
- Star rating: Five stars
- Positional ranking: No. 2 quarterback
- State ranking: No. 2 player from Louisiana
- Overall ranking: No. T-28 overall player
