Where Cam Ward finished among Pro Football Focus’ Top 101 2024 players

Miami quarterback Cam Ward was named the third-best player nationally in 2024 by Pro Football Focus in their article “PFF College 101: The top 101 players from the 2024 college football season.” Ward transferred to Miami to improve his NFL Draft stock, which projected him as a second or third-day pick in 2024.

Ward is now projected as the consensus No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Colorado cornerback and wide receiver Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty who was the runner-up, were the only players ranked higher than Ward on the PFF College 101.

Ward was tied with Mississippi QB Jaxson Dart with 74 completions of 20 or more yards nationally in 2024. Led by Ward, Miami was first nationally averaging 43.9 points per game and 537.2 total yards per game. Ward set the Miami single-season records for passing and total yards and passing and touchdowns responsible for.

Ward elevated a Miami offense that was 39th averaging 31.5 PPG and 31st averaging 431.2 total YPG in 2023. Adding Ward to lead an offense that had an elite receiving corps allowed Miami to become the most elite offense nationally in 2024. Ward was one of 14 QBs on the PFF 101 list.

“3. QB Cam Ward, Miami (FL)
After playing the role of a gunslinger at Washington State, Ward transferred to the Hurricanes and became the best quarterback in college football. He was the most valuable player in the nation according to PFF’s wins above average metric while his 92.9 PFF grade led all FBS signal-callers. Ward led the nation with 39 passing touchdowns while his 4,313 passing yards and 31 big-time throws were both second. “

During the Pop-Tarts Bowl Ward set the Division I career record with 178 TD passes. Ward previously played at Washington State and Football Bowl Subdivision, Incarnate Word in San Antonio. In his one season at Miami, Ward won the Davey O’Brien and Manning Awards, was ACC Player of the Year and first-team all-conference and a Consensus All-American.

Ward had the most prolific and arguably the most decorated season in Miami history. If he is selected first in the 2025 NFL Draft, he would become only the second Miami QB to do so, following Vinny Testaverde, who was drafted first overall in 1987. Testaverde won the 1986 Heisman Trophy and was a consensus All-American.
