Where does Arch Manning rank in 2025 Top 10 QB class?

Arch Manning is the new quarterback at the University of Texas and already the analysis and breakdowns have begun trying to accurately predict where he fits in the college football landscape next season.

Is Manning one of the Top 10 quarterbacks in the country going into the season? The near unanimous consensus is … yes. But where does he fit into that list? Are there better quarterbacks? There are certainly more experienced.

We got a more-than-expected look at Manning in 2024. He played a full two and a half games as the starting quarterback after Quinn Ewers’s oblique injury. He also saw mop-up duty against Colorado State and Florida with some short-yardage packages in the last few games of the season. But that’s still about three full games tops.

Compare that to QBs like Cade Klubnik at Clemson, he tore apart the Longhorns defense in the college football playoff first round game against the Horns at DKR. Klubnik already has 7,180 passing yards in his Tigers career already.

What about Sam Leavitt of Arizona State? His impact on the Sun Devils was immense.  Carson Beck will be back, but in a new Miami Hurricane’s uniform. Nico Iamaleava is back at Tennessee and Drew Allar at Penn State.

On3.com has published their list of top 2025 quarterbacks. Thomas Goldkamp ranked the QBs based on “impact.” He ranked Leavitt No. 1 and as far as impact, he has a good argument for 2024, but will that carry over into 2025?

Allar is second on the list, primarily because he has the experience of leading his team to the CFP semifinals. Florida’s DJ Lagway is No. 3, who missed the Gators game in Austin due to injury.

Goldkamp ranks Manning No. 4.

“Manning was good enough in his relief action at quarterback early in the 2024 season that there were at least some calls for him to take over as the starter late in the year. Steve Sarkisian stuck with Quinn Ewers, of course, but the luxury to have a backup as capable as Manning was unmistakable. The freshman phenom threw for 939 yards and nine touchdowns. He threw only two interceptions. He also ran for four scores. It’ll be the Arch Manning show at quarterback in 2025, so buckle up.” Thomas Goldkamp, On3

Inside Texas’ Ian Boyd also ranked the Top 10 QBs for 2025. The On3 Texas team site scribe based his rankings on how they fit into the prevalent offenses in the sport. Boyd says the QB needs to hit the primary receiver when open, protect the ball, scramble or run when appropriate and beat defenses with good pre and post snap reads.

Under those guidelines, Boyd ranked Clemson’s Klubnik No. 1. The Westlake High School grad fits that profile almost perfectly. Interestingly, Manning comes in at No. 2.

“Manning’s ability to bring some explosiveness and power in the run game surprised college football this year and due to his peculiar upbringing he may master old man progression passing earlier in his career,” Ian Boyd, Inside Texas

247Sports.com analyst Brad Crawford has his own ranking of the top 2025 QBs. Crawford says his list is “heavy on expectations for next season” and includes primarily teams that should be in or around the Top 25 next year. Two career starts are required for his list as well.

Klubnik tops the 247Sports list. LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier is No. 2. Crawford says, “When he’s on, Garrett Nussmeier has No. 1 overall pick potential.” He points out consistency will be something Nussmeier must improve on.

“Arch Manning comes in at No. 3. He projects Arch to 3,900 yards passing, 600+ yards rushing and 41 total touchdowns. After spring, Arch Manning will be three years into Steve Sarkisian’s offensive system and finally, he’ll get his opportunity to shine in 2025 with Quinn Ewers off to the NFL. You’re going to see the Longhorns be able to do more offensively from a quarterback run standpoint, too. While the pass-catchers will be different around Manning along with a couple new starters along the offensive line, the preseason Heisman frontrunner has a chance to ascend to top billing nationally as the face of a program that should get back to the playoff.” Brad Crawford, 247Sports

It is an interesting exercise to try to see where Manning ranks in pre-season. We’ll find out in late August when the Longhorns travel to the Horseshoe to open the season against Ohio State.
