We are in week nine of the college baseball season and we have made it through another week of conference games. The best series of the weekend was in Athens, Georgia, as the Bulldogs took two out of three games from the No. 1 Arkansas Razorbacks.
Texas is now the No. 1 team in the country and they have climbed to the No. 1 spot in the SEC Power Rankings. Georgia moved up to No. 2 after knocking Arkansas out of the No. 1 spot last weekend.
Auburn SWEPT LSU in a big shocker and Mississippi State beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa as the state of Alabama had the craziest results of the SEC in Week 9.
The Texas Longhorns had a tight series against Kentucky, but after dropping game two on a walk-off bunt, the Longhorns rallied to take game three and win the series. Texas is now 29-5 this season and 13-2 in conference play. Texas will host a red-hot Auburn team this weekend in Austin.
What a series it was for the Georgia Bulldogs last weekend against Arkansas. After the Razorbacks took game one 13-3, the Dawgs took games two and three to win the series and knock the Hogs out of the No. 1 spot in the country.
The best conference in baseball continues to be competitive every weekend. You never know who will come out on top. Georgia is now 32-6 overall and 10-5 in SEC play. The Dawgs will travel to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt this weekend.
3. Arkansas Razorbacks
Speaking of the Razorbacks, they are now 32-5 and 12-3 in conference play. They are no longer No. 1 in the country, but they are still a very dangerous team. Georgia is the only SEC team the Hogs have lost a series to so far. They will host Texas A&M this weekend, which is coming off of a huge series win against Tennessee last weekend.
4. Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee had a nice bounce-back weekend against Ole Miss as they took two out of three games against the Rebels. After dropping a series to Texas A&M, Tennessee needed a good weekend and they got it on the road in Oxford, Mississippi. The Vols will be back in Lindsey-Nelson Stadium to take on Kentucky this weekend.
5. Auburn Tigers
What a difference a couple of weeks made for the Auburn Tigers. After being swept by Georgia, Auburn took two out of three games against a top-ten Alabama team, and then the Tigers swept No. 3 LSU.
Auburn was 4-5 in conference play going into the Alabama series and now they are 9-6 in conference play and 26-10 overall as they have moved into the upper division of the conference standings. They will travel to Austin, Texas to take on the No. 1 Longhorns this weekend.
As I previously mentioned, it was not a fun week on the Plains for LSU as they were swept by the Auburn Tigers. LSU went from No. 3 in the polls all the way down to No. 10 in some polls. The Tigers are 31-6 overall and 10-5 in conference play. They will host Alabama starting on Thursday.
7. Ole Miss Rebels
It was a competitive weekend for the Rebels against Tennessee but Ole Miss came out with the short end of the stick as they lost two of three games to the Vols. That strand of bad luck extended into their mid-week game as they lost to the Little Rock Trojans 7-3 on Tuesday. The Rebels are 27-10 overall and 9-6 in conference play.
I guess we can call what Alabama has done the past two weeks the “Crimson Crash.” The Tide dropped two out of three games to Auburn and then they lost two out of three to Mississippi State at home. Bama is now 29-8 overall and 8-7 in conference play. Their schedule does not get any easier either as the Tide travel to Baton Rouge to take on an LSU team that got swept by Auburn last weekend.
After being swept by LSU two weeks ago, the Sooners lost to Dallas Baptist in their mid-week game but then bounced back by winning two out of three games against Vanderbilt. The Sooners are now 25-10 and 7-8 in conference play. They will travel this weekend to take on the Missouri Tigers.
10. Vanderbilt Commodores
Vandy dropped two out of three games to Oklahoma last weekend to fall to 26-10 overall and 8-7 in conference play. They will be back in Nashville this weekend as they host the Georgia Bulldogs for a three-game series.
11. Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky is 19-14 and 6-9 in conference play after losing two out of three games against Texas last weekend. They won Game Two on a walk-off bunt and kept it close in all three games but they were unable to come out with two wins. The Wildcats will hit the road to take on Tennessee this weekend.
Texas A&M is still near the bottom of the SEC, but they are in a much better position than they used to be. The Aggies won their series against Tennessee two weeks ago and then swept South Carolina last weekend to improve their record to 20-15 overall and 6-9 in conference play. They will have a tough test this weekend as they travel to Arkansas.
13. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mississippi State was 1-8 in conference play two weeks ago after being swept by LSU. Now they are 5-10 in SEC play after winning back-to-back series. The Bulldogs beat South Carolina and then beat Alabama to improve to 22-14 overall. This weekend, they will face the Florida Gators, who are still reeling from injuries.
14. Florida Gators
Florida won their first conference series of the season as they swept Missouri to improve to 24-14 overall and 4-11 in conference play. Despite how rough the season has been for Florida, they were still able to beat No. 9 Florida State 5-4 in a mid-week matchup last week. The Gators will take on Mississippi State in Starkville this weekend.
15. South Carolina Gamecocks
The Gamecocks have cemented themselves as the second-worst team in the conference as they have fallen to 20-17 overall and 2-13 in conference play. South Carolina was swept by Texas A&M last weekend after losing two out of three games to Mississippi State two weeks ago. Carolina will host Ole Miss this weekend.
16. Missouri Tigers
Missouri still does not have a conference win. They are 12-23 overall and 0-15 in conference play. This weekend, they will host Oklahoma as they look for their first conference win.
