Where Vanderbilt baseball ranks in preseason USA TODAY Coaches Poll

Vanderbilt baseball was ranked No. 18 in the preseason USA TODAY Coaches Poll released Tuesday.

This is the lowest ranking the Commodores have received in the preseason USA TODAY poll since 2010, when Vanderbilt was not ranked in the initial poll. It’s also lower than the Commodores have ranked in other college baseball polls. Vanderbilt was ranked No. 15 by Perfect Game and Baseball America, No. 16 by D1Baseball and No. 14 by the NCBWA.

The Commodores finished 2024 with a record of 38-23. Their 13-17 finish in the SEC was the worst conference record they have had since 2009. After the season, Vanderbilt fired assistant coaches Mike Baxter and Tyler Shewmaker and replaced them with Jayson King from Dayton and Ty Blankmeyer from Duke.

Junior utilityman RJ Austin was named a third-team Preseason All-American by Baseball America, while left-handed pitchers JD Thompson and Miller Green were third-team Preseason All-Americans by D1Baseball. Baseball America additionally projected infielder Brodie Johnston as the SEC Freshman of the Year.
