Vanderbilt baseball finished its regular season ranked in the top 10 of college polls, however, the Commodores’ ranking remained relatively modest compared to its third-place finish in the SEC and No. 3 ranking in the RPI.
Vanderbilt (39-16) ranked No. 9 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll, No. 9 in the D1Baseball poll and No. 10 in the Baseball America poll.
The Commodores won 12 of their final 16 SEC games, including a road series win over Tennessee. In total, Vanderbilt won six of its 10 SEC series with four sweeps: at home over Georgia, Texas A&M and Kentucky and on the road over Florida.
The Tennessean’s NCAA tournament projections are higher on the Commodores than the polls, projecting Vanderbilt as the No. 3 national seed due to the No. 3 RPI and No. 2 strength of schedule as well as a 19-11 SEC record.
The Commodores remained ranked in the polls for the entire season but were in the mid-teens for most of the year.
