Vanderbilt baseball was ranked No. 16 in the D1Baseball preseason poll.
The Commodores were previously ranked No. 15 in the Perfect Game poll released last week.
This is Vanderbilt’s lowest-ever preseason ranking in the D1Baseball poll, which has existed since 2015. The Commodores were ranked No. 14 in 2018, their previous lowest mark.
Among nine SEC teams ranked in the preseason poll, Vanderbilt was behind Texas A&M, LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia and Florida, and ahead of Mississippi State and Texas.
In 2024, Vanderbilt went 38-23 overall and 13-17 in the SEC, its worst conference record since 2009. Coach Tim Corbin fired assistants Mike Baxter and Tyler Shewmaker, replacing them with Jayson King and Ty Blankmeyer.
Returning senior shortstop Jonathan Vastine was recently named the No. 1 senior player in college baseball by Perfect Game. Alongside him, the Commodores return starting second baseman Jayden Davis and utilityman RJ Austin, left-handed starter JD Thompson and the majority of last year’s bullpen. Vanderbilt also adds highly touted freshman Brodie Johnston and transfers Mike Mancini and Cody Bowker.
The Commodores open their season Feb. 14 against Grand Canyon at the MLB Desert Invitational in Arizona.
