This year, the College Football Playoff is expanding. Teams with one or two losses will still be eligible to compete for a national title — and that includes the Georgia Bulldogs.
The first College Football Playoff rankings come out in a few days, and Georgia is almost assuredly going to be right in the thick of the race. After all, they are currently ranked No. 2 in the US LBM Coaches Poll. With a talented roster featuring players like Carson Beck, Trevor Etienne, Jalon Walker, Malaki Starks, and many others, the Bulldogs would have to collapse like never before to miss the playoff.
That said, until the SEC championship has been secured, there is a chance that Georgia could fall out of the top four, meaning it would lose out on a first-round playoff bye — making the path to the title all the more difficult. Here’s how the new 12-team playoff will work, and where Georgia fits into this whole mess.

Georgia football’s projected CFP bracket opponent
The No. 2-seeded Georgia Bulldogs are currently projected to play the No. 7-seeded Texas Longhorns in the CFP quarterfinals, which would give the Longhorns a shot at redemption after losing to the Bulldogs 30-15 on Oct. 19.
Of course in this scenario, the Longhorns would have to win their first-round matchup as well. Currently, the Longhorns are projected to play the Boise State Broncos in the first round, meaning Georgia would play either team the following weekend.
