Duke basketball sensation Cooper Flagg put the finishing touches on his freshman season during the Blue Devils’ run to the Final Four, but now all the attention turns to which NBA team he’ll spend his career with at the professional level.
As a 6-foot-9 forward who dished more than four assists per game, averaged 1.4 steals and blocks as a defender, and made more than 38% of his 3-pointers, Flagg is seen as a once-in-a-generation talent. Ever since he reclassified to the Class of 2024, every scout has known the 2025 NBA draft lottery would be the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes, and he only added fuel to that fire by winning every National Player of the Year award.
The NBA regular season came to a close on Sunday night, so each team at the bottom of the standings now knows its chance to land Duke‘s shining superstar. The Utah Jazz lost 65 of their 82 games to finish with the league’s worst record, but the modern lottery system doesn’t guarantee that Flagg will join former Blue Devil Kyle Filipowski out west.
Here’s a breakdown of the NBA teams most likely to end up with the No. 1 overall pick.
Team | Record | Chance to Get No. 1 Pick |
Utah Jazz | 17-65 | 14% |
Washington Wizards | 18-64 | 14% |
Charlotte Hornets | 19-63 | 14% |
New Orleans Pelicans | 21-61 | 12.5% |
Philadelphia 76ers | 24-58 | 10.5% |
Brooklyn Nets | 26-56 | 9% |
Toronto Raptors | 30-52 | 7.5% |
San Antonio Spurs | 34-48 | 6% |
Houston Rockets (via Phoenix Suns) | 52-30 | 3.8% |
Portland Trail Blazers | 36-46 | 3.7% |
The NBA draft lottery will take place on May 12.
