Should the NCAA transfer portal open before the end of March Madness?
Rick Pitino, John Calipari and even J.J. Watt sound off on the transfer portal opening during the NCAA Tournament.
Sports Seriously
During the first four rounds of the 2025 NCAA men’s basketball tournament, March lacked some of its customary madness. While there were some close games and one particularly memorable buzzer-beater, the bracket unfolded largely as expected.
Perhaps some of the drama that didn’t materialize in March was simply saving itself for April.
For the first time since 2008, and for just the second time ever, the Final Four is made up entirely of No. 1 seeds, with Duke, Houston, Florida and Auburn all making the trip to San Antonio, Texas, to see who will leave the Alamodome as an NCAA champion.
The absence of Cinderellas should, in theory, produce some more compelling matchups, particularly since they involve four teams that aren’t only head and shoulders above the rest of the sport in the advanced metrics this season, but among the best squads in modern college basketball history. The Blue Devils, Cougars, Gators and Tigers are each among the top 10 teams in net efficiency ever on KenPom, going all the way back to the 1997 season.
