To LT Overton, spring practice has been “smooth” for Alabama football, something he feels is completely different from a season ago.
“I feel like everybody’s starting to get the scheme and things down,” Overton said in an interview on “Hey Coach” with the Crimson Tide Sports Network on Monday. “It was new to everyone last year. New guys coming in, especially, us being able to bring those guys in, bring leadership toward everybody.”
Overton now sees himself as one of those leaders, one of those defensive players with much to prove after he felt he left a lot of pressure opportunities on the table in his first season with the Crimson Tide in 2024.
But to Overton, the former Texas A&M defensive lineman, it’s more than just turning pressures into sacks. It’s finding a voice, something he could relate with Washington transfer-turned-Alabama center Parker Brailsford.
“We have this conversation all the time,” Overton said. “I feel like we didn’t have much say. Because it’s different coming in from another program, coming into Alabama, the standard of college football. Now we realize we have a say. We put our foot down on a lot of things, making sure everybody goes by the standard of Alabama.”
What does that standard look like? To Overton, it’s gaining respect by the work he puts in, building off a season when he had 42 tackles, but only three for loss and two sacks.
Alabama will hold its A Day spring game at noon Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
