The Alex Bregman rumors and speculation continues.
Other teams are being linked to the free agent third baseman who the Detroit Tigers are pursuing. With the negotiations with the Tigers at a standstill, Bregman has reportedly talked to his old team, the Houston Astros, while the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays also have reported interest.
In an ESPN article for “bold predictions” for the rest of the offseason, one writer had the Tigers eventually signing Bregman, and another had him landing with the most active team of the offseason — the Los Angeles Dodgers.

ESPN’s David Shoenfield predicted the Dodgers because Bregman fits with the roster long-term and they have shown they aren’t afraid to spend.

“Why should the Dodgers stop now?” Shoenfield wrote. “If Bregman can’t find the big deal he wants, the Dodgers might be a surprise fit. Max Muncy is a free agent after 2025 and prone to strikeouts. Hyeseong Kim’s bat projects as more of a utility infielder than a starting second baseman. Bregman can shift between second and third in 2025 and then replace Muncy in 2026.”
ESPN writer Bradford Doolittle predicted Bregman will land with the Tigers because of his fit in the infield, potential value as a locker room veteran and his connection with manager A.J. Hinch.
“He could start at any of the infield spots, and Detroit could move players around (Gleyber) Torres to make a number of configurations work,” Doolittle wrote. “Bregman would be the perfect veteran presence for a young team at the outset of a new window of winning. His history with manager A.J. Hinch gives him a comfort zone.”
The Tigers have signed second baseman Gleyber Torres, but could fill another lineup spot with Bregman. The Tigers came into the offseason looking for right-handed hitters and more infielders, especially at the hot corner. They have Jace Jung and Matt Vierling as potential third base options if they do not sign Bregman or anyone else.

Bregman spent his first nine MLB seasons with the Astros, where he played under Hinch for four seasons and was a two-time All-Star and World Series champion.
The Tigers are also looking into the reliever free agent market, with right-hander Carlos Estévez as one potential option.
