There are big things on tap for baseball in the Big 12 this year, including noticeable changes in the lineup of teams and a new format for the conference championship at the end of the season.
During the regular season, each of the 14 teams in the new-look Big 12 will face 10 of the possible 13 other teams across 30 games of conference action. The window for conference play will begin March 14 and close May 16.
Two of the teams looking to take control in the Big 12 this year are Kansas State and TCU, and while they won’t meet during the formal conference slate, they’ll get to size each other up when they meet Feb. 23 during the 2025 Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 2.
So, while the Kansas State-TCU matchup at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, won’t count toward the Big 12 standings, that doesn’t mean anything they learn during those nine innings won’t be valuable if they’re fortunate enough to return to Arlington for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship in May.

What Has Changed In the Big 12 For The 2025 Collegiate Baseball Season?
Following the 2024 collegiate baseball season, Big 12 regular-season champion Oklahoma and third-place Texas departed the Big 12 for the stacked Southeastern Conference.
Among the remaining teams is Oklahoma State, last year’s second-place team during the regular season and the winner of the Big 12 Championship.
The changes in the conference didn’t simply end with losing two powerhouse teams, however.
Instead, the shake-up included the addition of Arizona, Arizona State and Utah from the decimated Pac-12.
The teams playing in the Big 12 in 2025 are:

Another significant change for the Big 12 is a new format for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship, which will feature the top 12 teams from the regular-season standings. Those teams will advance to the conference tournament at Globe Life Field, scheduled for May 21-24.
The top four seeds will earn byes, and seeds No. 5-12 will kick off the single-elimination competition.
About Kansas State Baseball
Last season, the Kansas State baseball team was 35-26 overall and 15-15 in the Big 12, finishing tied for sixth place.
The performance was enough to land the Wildcats in the 2024 NCAA Division Baseball Championship, and they advanced to the super-regional round for the second time in program history. The run came to an end against Virginia in the NCAA Charlottesville Super Regional.
K-State’s 2025 campaign gets underway Friday at the Baseball at the Beach event in Conway, South Carolina.
About TCU Baseball
After advancing to the NCAA Men’s College World Series in 2023, the 2024 campaign was a bit of a let down for the Horned Frogs, who were 33-21 overall and 14-16 in the Big 12, finishing in the bottom half of the standings.
TCU’s season ended with a loss to Kansas in the Big 12 Championships. The Horned Frogs were 2-2 in the tournament.
The 2025 season for TCU begins Friday in San Diego with the first of four games against the University of San Diego.

Where Is The 2025 College Baseball Showdown?
The Shriners Children’s College Showdown and two-weekend Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota will take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and feature some of the top teams in the nation.
The 2025 season will mark the fifth consecutive year of college baseball at Globe Life Field – home of the world champion Texas Rangers – and the second straight year the action will span three weekends.
When Is The College Baseball Showdown?
The first weekend of the festivities, the Shriners Children’s College Showdown, will begin on Friday, Feb. 14 and will run through Feb. 16.
The following two weeks of action, the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, will take place Feb. 21-23 and Feb. 28-March 2.
To keep the momentum going between the weekends, the series also will include four midweek games at Globe Life Field. Those contests will take place Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 5.

How Long Is The NCAA Division I Baseball Season?
You already know that the teams in the Big 12 Conference play 30 conference games, but that’s only a little more than half of the schedule.
Teams are able to begin their official practices during the final week of January, while mid-February traditionally marks the start of formal competition for Division I baseball teams.
From start to finish, the Division I baseball season means 132 days together for the players and coaches, and teams may play in more than 50 games (56 is the maximum number of contests before the postseason).
By the time they achieved the Division I national championship in 2024, the Tennessee Volunteers (of the SEC) had played 73 games, compiling a 60-13 record.
