Will Nate Ament make a trip to Kentucky after cancelling Kansas State visit?

On3’s Joe Tipton reported Monday that Nate Ament would no longer take an official visit to Kansas State, which was scheduled for February 11. Could Kentucky look to make a push for the five-star wing?

Nothing has been finalized at this time, but it’s beginning to sound like head coach Mark Pope could bring Ament, the No. 4 ranked 2025 recruit in the On3 Industry Ranking, to Lexington for a visit. The rumor mill started churning once college basketball insider Trilly Donovan noted Ament was replacing his Kansas State visit with one for UK at the same time. Feb. 11 is the date of Kentucky’s home game against Tennessee, a school that is also heavily recruiting Ament.

Keep in mind Ament was also at the Kentucky-Tennessee game in Knoxville last week when the Wildcats pulled off a huge road upset. That trip was an unofficial visit.

More coals were added to the blue and white fire on Tuesday when On3’s Jamie Shaw noted Ament has plans to take one more official visit before going into decision-making mode. That visit would be to Kentucky, Shaw reports, although no date has been locked in yet.

Ament is down to 11 finalists: Alabama, Arkansas, BYU, Duke, Georgetown, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Texas. That being said, he’s only taken official visits to Texas, Louisville, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Duke. He visited the Blue Devils last weekend for its win against North Carolina.

Pope has already landed a trio of talented recruits for his debut high school recruiting class at Kentucky. He’s brought in a pair of in-state prospects, guard Jasper Johnson (No. 19 overall) and center Malachi Moreno (No. 28), along with Washington D.C. product Acaden Lewis (No. 32). But after five-star forward Caleb Wilson chose North Carolina over UK, it’s left some fans wondering if Pope can land the “big fish”.

Could Ament be that catch? Pope offered him over the summer and went to visit him a couple of times throughout the fall. But Ament hasn’t made it to Lexington yet. Getting him on campus shortly before he plans to announce a decision is never a bad thing. We’ll see if Pope can pull it off.
