Wilmington College football player dies early Sunday

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A local college student died in an off-campus incident very early Sunday morning.

In an email announcement on Sunday, March 23, Wilmington College said Tony Crane, a Sophomore, football player and Delta Theta Sigma Fraternity member has died.

The school has opened Counseling and Campus Ministry Services to all students.

The Wilmington Police Department is actively investigating the death. It has said there is no further danger to community members.

All classes will be canceled on Monday, March 23. There will be Counseling Services and Campus Ministry in the Meetinghouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for support services.

“Please join me in keeping the Crane family and campus community, including the football team and DTS Fraternity, in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this heartbreaking loss,” said Sigrid Solomon, Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer.

Solomon shared a message with those on campus Sunday morning.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of one of our own, Tony Crane, a sophomore, who passed away early this morning. Tony was a valued member of both the football team and the DTS Fraternity. Counseling and Campus Ministry Services have been made available to students,” said Solomon. “Wilmington Police Department continues to investigate and reports there is no danger to community members. We will update the College as we learn more from authorities.”
