Wisconsin’s Greg Gard proud of Garding Against Cancer’s impact
The Badgers coach spoke to reporters before the eighth-annual Garding Against Cancer fundraiser May 2 at the Kohl Center.
MADISON – When the Wisconsin men’s basketball team faced BYU in the second round of the NCAA tournament in March, the Badgers got a taste of what it was like to play in front of the Cougars’ massive fan base.
That game, which BYU won, 91-88, was played in Denver in front of a very pro-BYU crowd. Next season Wisconsin will go deeper into Cougar country.
On June 3 the Badgers announced a non-conference game against BYU on Nov. 21 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. The arena, which is home to the Utah Jazz, is about one hour away from the Cougars’ campus in Provo, Utah.
The matchup will mark the Badgers’ first game in Salt Lake City since the 2000 Final Four run when they won games over Fresno State and Arizona at the University of Utah’s Huntsman Center.
“We’re really excited that we’re able to schedule this game with BYU,” UW head coach Greg Gard said in a press release. “Our game last year was one of the best of the NCAA tournament and I think both fan bases will enjoy seeing a rematch this season. We have always tried to challenge ourselves in the non-conference schedule to prepare the team for Big Ten play and beyond and this game certainly will do so.”
The matchup is the third known game the Badgers will play in an NBA arena next season.
Last week they announced an exhibition game against Oklahoma at Fiserv Forum on Oct. 24 in Milwaukee. Also, CBS Sports reported that UW will face Villanova at Fiserv on Dec. 19.
