It was a good day for the Zionsville baseball program on Monday, as six seniors celebrated their decisions to play at the next level.
The six J.J. Etchison (Dominican University), Van Moody (Westminster College), Brady Shaw (DePauw University), Matt Pederson (DePauw University), Cade Lile (Trine University) and Ryder Weisenbach (Marian University) were honored at a ceremony at the school on Monday afternoon.
“Signing day is always a special day for the seniors and I am super proud of them,” Zionsville head coach Jered Moore said. “I know how much time and effort they have put into it – whether it be in our program, or their summer teams or individual training – so for them to get rewarded and have the chance to play collegiately is awesome and I am really happy for them.”
Moore said this was a special group because of how much time and effort they put into their craft while staying patient for their opportunities.
Those opportunities didn’t always come at the varsity level, but Moore said six always found ways to contribute and help the program, and continued to work to get better.
“It’s really valuable to have guys like that,” Moore said. “They have a lot of experience, and it’s not all at the varsity level. They have put in their time, they work hard and they keep grinding. It’s something the younger kids can look up to and it shows that if you keep working hard, your time will come.”
The room was packed with family, friends and teammates on Monday to celebrate the six seniors.
Moore said having days like this are also great for the younger kids to see, showing what can happen if you put in the work.
“Especially some of the freshmen, they don’t know these guys but they see how respected they are and what kind of leaders they are,” Moore said. “We have been fortunate to be able to do some of these every year, and I think it shows the younger guys that there are opportunities out there for them if they put in the work.”
