Both Michigan-based Big Ten schools host undefeated teams on Saturday. Michigan State hosts Indiana, while the Wolverines welcome Oregon. Can either pull off the upset or at least keep it close? MLive’s college football writers weigh in. The standings in the season-long competition are tight at the top (best bet in parentheses):
Matt Wenzel: 51-42 (4-5)
Ryan Zuke: 49-44 (4-5)
Aaron McMann: 48-45 (4-5)
Andrew Kahn: 44-49 (6-3)
Kyle Austin: 43-50 (3-6)
There’s still time for anyone to make a move. The picks against the spread from MLive’s college football writers are below. All games are on Saturday unless otherwise noted, kickoff times are eastern, and odds are courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.
Minnesota at Illinois
- When: noon
- TV: FS1 | Fubo (7-day free trial) | DirecTV Stream | Sling TV
- Line: Minnesota -2.5
This line seems fishy. Illinois is still ranked and at home, but a few key players are questionable due to injuries.
MLive staff picks:
- Minnesota -2.5: Austin, Kahn
- Illinois +2.5: McMann, Wenzel, Zuke
Ohio State at Penn State
- When: noon
- TV: FOX | Fubo (7-day free trial) | DirecTV Stream | Sling TV
- Line: Ohio State -3.5
OK, James Franklin and Penn State, it’s “prove it” time. Franklin is 3-17 against top-10 teams as Penn State’s coach and has lost the last seven meetings against Ohio State.
MLive staff picks:
- Ohio State -3.5: Austin (best bet), Kahn, Wenzel, Zuke
- Penn State +3.5: McMann
Northwestern at Purdue
- When: noon
- TV: BTN | Fubo (7-day free trial) | DirecTV Stream | Sling TV
- Line: Northwestern -1.5
Purdue, the lone winless team in the Big Ten, better get this one to avoid becoming the first team since Indiana in 2021 to lose every league game. After this, the Boilermakers face Ohio State (road), Penn State, Michigan State (road), and Indiana (road).
MLive staff picks:
- Northwestern -1.5: Austin, McMann, Wenzel
- Purdue +1.5: Kahn, Zuke
UCLA at Nebraska
- When: 3:30 p.m.
- TV: BTN | Fubo (7-day free trial) | DirecTV Stream | Sling TV
- Line: Nebraska -6.5
Nebraska last won on Oct. 5. UCLA is coming off a bye, which followed a win at Rutgers. This is a rematch of the unforgettable Foster Farms Bowl in 2015. (I’d forgotten about it.)
MLive staff picks:
- Nebraska -6.5: Austin, Kahn, McMann, Wenzel (best bet), Zuke (best bet)
Wisconsin at Iowa
- When: 7:30 p.m.
- TV: NBC | Fubo (7-day free trial) | DirecTV Stream | Sling TV
- Line: Iowa -3.5
This 100-year-old rivalry has a trophy that debuted in 2004. Iowa has won the last two meetings. Don’t expect too many points in this one.
MLive staff picks:
- Wisconsin +3.5: Austin, McMann, Wenzel, Zuke
- Iowa -3.5: Kahn
USC at Washington
- When: 7:30 p.m.
- TV: BTN | Fubo (7-day free trial) | DirecTV Stream | Sling TV
- Line: USC -2.5
A traditional Pac 12 matchup. USC last beat the Huskies in 2016, but are road favorites in this one.
MLive staff picks:
- USC -2.5: Austin, Zuke
- Washington +2.5: Kahn (best bet), McMann, Wenzel
Indiana at Michigan State
- When: 3:30 p.m.
- TV: Peacock
- Line: Indiana -7.5
After losing to their rival for the third straight year, the Spartans will have to dust themselves off before taking on undefeated Indiana.
MLive staff picks:
- Indiana -7.5: Austin, Kahn, McMann (best bet), Zuke
- Michigan State +7.5: Wenzel
Oregon at Michigan
- When: 3:30 p.m.
- TV: CBS/Paramount+ | Fubo (7-day free trial) | DirecTV Stream | Sling TV
- Line: Oregon -15.5
Michigan has already hosted a team that was No. 1 in the country this season: Texas, though the Longhorns were not No. 1 at the time. It did not go well for the Wolverines. They’ll get another crack against top-ranked Oregon.
MLive staff picks:
- Oregon -15.5: Austin, Kahn, McMann, Zuke
- Michigan +15.5: Wenzel
