College Football Watch Guide

It’s just been one of those weeks, folks. I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m ready to raid my kids’ Halloween bags and enjoy a weekend of college football with the promise of no political ads by this time next week. Iowa’s not even a swing state in this cycle and I swear I’m about to lose my mind. I can’t even think about what it must be like for people in Wisconsin or Pennsylvania.

But political ad-free football is on the horizon, we just have to hang on a little bit longer. In the meantime, don’t forget to vote, vote, VOTE (but only once).

San Diego State @ #15 Boise State – Friday, 7:00 PM – FS1

I must be bad luck because when I finally tune in to watch Boise State Ashton Jeanty has a slow day and the Broncos had an uncharacteristically close win over UNLV. Now, a slow day for Jeanty is still good for 128 yards and a touchdown. San Diego State is not UNLV, so this could be an opportunity for the Heisman front-runner to wreak havoc.

Saturday, Nov. 2 – Morning/Afternoon

#4 Ohio State @ #3 Penn State – 11:00 AM – FOX

Ohio State, you have to quite toying with my expectations. I expect you to absolutely dog walk Nebraska only to find you holding on four a four point win at home! Now you’ve got the Big Noon Kickoff spotlight and I’m back to thinking you might be staring down your first loss. Number four at number three. This’ll be fun.

Air Force @ #21 Army – 11:00 AM – CBS

In the market for some good old fashioned collegiate pranks? Army’s got you covered.

Minnesota @ #24 Illinois – 11:00 AM – FS1

Minnesota has been on a nice little run of late, winning their last three straight and only falling to Michigan by three about a month ago. Illinois will be smarting after a loss to top-ranked Oregon, but they’ve been solid all year long. I think this will be a fun one to watch between two evenly matched teams.

Speaking of Oregon…

#1 Oregon @ Michigan – 2:30 PM – CBS

I’m not holding out much hope that the Wolverines can take down the quacks from Eugene. Michigan has been a deep disappointment so far while Oregon is firmly in command of the B1G. But the Oregon-Michigan is still the kind of high profile game we dreamed of with conference realignment so we might as well sit here and enjoy it.

#13 Indiana @ Michigan State @ 2:30 PM – Peacock

By this point I’m tuning in to every Hoosier game to see just how far they can go. Indiana is in the midst of their own dream season and they’re legitimately exciting to watch. The only team on their schedule I’d worry about is Ohio State and even in that one I think they’d have a decent shot.

Wisconsin @ Iowa – 6:30 PM – NBC

Kirk Ferentz confirmed on Tuesday that Cade McNamara would be out for the Wisconsin game due to a concussion so it’s all systems go for the Brendan Sullivan era. Well, not all systems as receiver Reece Vander Zee and tight end Addison Ostrenga will also be out. Let’s see what you can do, Sully.

Kentucky @ #7 Tennessee – 6:45 PM – SEC Network

I have a confession to make. Tennessee is one of my college football guilty pleasures. Every rational bone in my body tells me not to be drawn to that program and yet I can’t help but enjoy watching their games. Maybe it’s because Rocky Top is so damn catchy. Maybe it’s because every brand element from the power-T to the checkerboard end zones, to always clean combination of Tennessee orange and white. Whatever it is I can’t help fell that pull to the dark side.

#18 Pittsburgh @ #20 SMU – 7:00 PM – ACC Network

The Panthers and Mustangs sit at third and fourth, respectively, in the ACC so this game automatically has a good dose of spice to it on top of it being the only game of the night featuring two ranked teams. A win is valuable to both teams, but more so for Pitt as they face #11 Clemson next weekend while SMU closes the season with BC, Virginia, and Cal.
