Cowgirls open College Basketball season with a win on Kids Day

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – The McNeese Cowgirls opened up their 2024-25 season against Southeastern Baptist beating the Chargers 99-19

In front of around 2,000 screaming fifth-grade students, the Cowgirls started off the game on a 14-0 run led by six points from Julia Puente Valverde during the run.

The Cowgirls would then expand on their lead at the end of the first quarter as Kyla Davis scored a couple times including a deep three-pointer to put McNeese up 20-4

In the second quarter, the Cowgirls continued to control the pace of play and went on another huge 23-0 run, as Lyla Kahrimanovic made a couple of fast-break layups.

Southeastern Baptist would nail a three at the end of the half to make it 43-9 going into the locker room.

The second half was much of the same for McNeese as Kahrimanovic began to take over the game putting up six more points in the third quarter as the Cowgirls held a 70-15 lead.

The fourth quarter would be highlighted by a behind the back pass from Kahrimanovic to Alva Mofalk to make it 91-17.

McNeese will be back at the Legacy Center for their next game on Thursday as they are set to take on the College of Biblical Studies.
